Bangkok gay guide

Finally, for gay and lesbian clubbers, Bangkok has one of Asia's most prolific gay club scenes - from Telephone and The Balcony to DJ Station to Utopia, a combination bar, gallery, café and information clearing house for the local gay and lesbian community. And of course there's the Babylon Sauna & Spa and the Babylon Bed & Breakfast- the all in one gay resort complex. A must see and visit place while in Bangkok. It's described as one of the best gay saunas in Asia, and one of the top 10
gay saunas in the world!

Thai culture is very tolerant of homosexuality, both male and female. The nation has no laws that discriminate against homosexuals and there is a fairly prominent gay/lesbian scene around the country. Whether speaking of dress or mannerism, lesbians and gays are generally accepted without comment.

Cruising
SOGO Department Store, near the Hyatt and the World Trade Centre, is known to be quite cruisey. Be sure you have a room elsewhere though; the management isn’t fond of their store’s reputation.

· Lumphini Park is crisscrossed with little lanes. In the middle, there is a small cruising area.

· Salalom Park, in the Old City, is another popular, although somewhat crime-ridden, place to cruise.

· The health-clubs in most hotels also sell memberships to local Thais. Most (but not all) of the men who join are gay. The Clark-Hatch Fitness Centre at the Amari Watergate Hotel is especially gay and cruisey.

· At night on Rama IV Road, in front of Robinson Department Store, boys line up for sale.

Bars/Club
Every part of Bangkok has its own nightlife scene. Venues range from holes in the wall with a karaoke machine to lush and lavish hotel clubs. The Silom Road area has a reputation as the heart of gay nightlife with its dense crowd of discos, bars and restaurants and its dense crowds. Sukhumvit Road, with its business hotels and expensive housing, boasts an extensive night-life as well, although most of it is straight.

Go-go bars are also a fixture in Bangkok's nightlife. Many of the boys dancing on stage are straight farm boys; however, some actually are gay. Many have a limited range there are some things lots of boys wont do, but theyll tell you if you ask. The rule is, ask and negotiate before taking them out for more intimate entertainment. The boys in these bars all purport to be over 18. If in doubt, however, leave him alone. The penalties for sleeping with children are severe. Just pick up a local Silom area map to find them - they're usually quite near the Silom and Sukhumvit areas.
